A wonderful resource. Thank you.
Being able to see the churches and towns that our ancestors lived in gives them life and makes research easier for those of us who do not live in England and are unable to travel.
Do you plan to photograph St John's church of England in Midsomer Norton? It has a plaque in memory of 12 miners who were murdered when the line to their cage was cut. My great great great uncle, William Summers, was one of those miners. (My family were all staunch Wesleyan Methodists - someone in the C of E just happened to find it pertinent to put up a memorial for these men. I don't know whether it is inside or outside the church.)

Hello, Absolutely great, wonderful photographs. I found your site whilst looking/reseaching for family history. Family research on the name of Faulkes as ancestors, births or christenings in this area, I was most interested in Lydbrook, Dursley, Newland, Sapperton and Salperton. After seeing the photographs of these churches, I feel I must go and visit them myself. Very inspirational. Thank you.

Hi,
I've visited your site(s) often; there's so much to see. Thank you for sharing your beautiful and interesting photos and information. If we are correct in our genealogy, our father's family came from the Normans, Great and Little Washbourne, Bengeworth, etc. So, it's been interesting to see photos of these places and learn a little more about them. Thanks again.

Congratulations on your wonderful site. My ancestors the Baileys came from South Cerney. Back in 1747 our Richard Baily married an Ellen (Eleanor) Verrender at Cirencester. Excellent. I am hunting for Bannister for a friend, hence my visit to your site. John Bannister and Mary Willshear/Willsher were married at Barnwood 30 Jan 1842. They were in Birmingham by 1850. Census give their birth places as Gloucester. It was great to see the churches etc. I haven't been to Gloucester.

My mother's family came from Gloucestershire. Her father's name was Lea which I have now traced to 1776 to Boddington to St Mary Magdalene's churchyard in Boddington. And thanks to you and your beautiful pictures I have a sense of the area they lived in and where they worshipped. I would not have been able to see those things had it not been for your pictures. I may not ever be able to get to England myself to see them, so thank you so very much for that glimpse of my heritage. I am also looking for Lesters and Roberts but haven't had as much luck yet. I hope I'll be as successful one day soon.

I have stumbled upon your site when researching a photo I have obtained of the 'Mace Farm in Wyck Rissinton', Glouc. England. This is a photo my stepfather William Mace gave to me recently. He is 84 years old and I was trying to find some information about the Farm or about any of his family which I could relay to him. Have you heard of any Mace farm in this area. I would appreciate even a tidbit of information (or a possible lead) to relay to my stepdad. It would please him immensely. Thank you so much...Judy Recoskie

An excellent site. My great grandparents Richard and Eleanor Chapman lived at Farnley House. Does this house still exist? They were registered there in the census of 1891. I don't know if they worked there or owned the house? The census form states Richard's profession as 'common bunter'? The writing was not clear. Perhaps you could clarify? Many thanks.

Beautiful and wonderful, especially for me. I lived in Stonehouse, Glos; and my brother lived in King's Stanley, Glos. My greatgrandfather, John Henry Sheldon, played the organ in the church in Sapperton, Glos in late 1800s and very early 1900s, in his red leather carpet slippers.
I know St. Mary's in Painswick, an earlier ancestor of mine, Mary Poole, was baptized there in 1827. What a memorable trip for me through your Gloucestershire churches. Thank you.

Fantastic collection of photographs and so useful for those of us seeking information about our English ancestors. Thanks for the wonderful website with marvelous photos of Wiltshire churches!!
My Mist ancestors lived in Amesbury in the 1600-1800's. Mary Mist, a sister to my 4X great grandfather married William Privett of Chilmark in 1721. I enjoyed the lovely photos of St. Margaret's church. William Privett, the younger, a son of this William Privett was a sculptor and did work at Stourhead.

Also, I enjoyed the photos of Sutton Benger, and the Green Man! The images of the stained glass windows are superb! Thanks very much for sharing such interesting information and pictures. We appreciate it!

Dear John,

I realised a few days ago that it has been several years now
that we have been using your web site to document parts of our own project,
a catalogue-inventory of baptismal fonts. We often need information on
on churches of the Cotswolds and I have found your site a gold-mine
of information. Working, as we do, a continent away, with the annual field-trip
to tidy up a few loose ends, means that much of the information
has to be found elsewhere. As librarians and researchers we
rely on dependable information and your web site satisfies
our most demanding requests. Moreover, it is a pleasure to
use and the imagery is just stunning. Short of 'being there',
it's the next best thing!

Many thanks for making this treasure of information available
so openly, and so tastefully presented, on the web.

You have created an addiction in us. Please, keep it going!

With grateful regards,

Great website and beautiful photos. The ones of St. Mary's Church, Norton are absolutely brilliant. My ancestor was vicar there from 1887-1907 and he and his family are buried there. I feel as if time has stood still and can visualise him officiating there. Would you mind if I use some to illustrate my family history, which would just be for a few immediate family members? I have the early photos of your beautiful pictures of Hewelsfield Church and Ashley St James and a visit today to your site showed the wonderful additions. My ancestors came from Ashley and Hewelsfield and though I have a mono photo of the interior of Hewelsfield Parish Church these are so much better. Would you mind if I used some of them to illustrate my family history, which would not be for publication outside my small family? I will of course name my source. I do wish you have them published as I am sure that many people in New Zealand alone would be interested. Good luck and thank you so much for sharing your work.

I find your pictures and information very interesting and I will look forward to watching how things proceed. I lived near Uley (Elcombe actually) from 1950 to 1970 and went to the Grammar School in Dursley, '59-65.

Excellent photos - being originally from Gloucester, until we emigrated in 1976, the photos brought back some very pleasant memories for us

Your site really cheered up a cold English Sunday morning.

What a lovely surprise your photographs were when navigating your website. Have wallpapered one of your snow pictures on the front of my computer, as it is a hot and sticky day today in Queensland, Australia. I was looking for Dursley, as my grandmother was buried there in the 1940's. She went to live with an uncle of mine as the bombing was bad in Cardiff. Very nice site. Well done! Cheers mate.

Thank you very much for the lovely pictures. Please do not remove them until I can look at all of them.
