A nice little group of portraits, some of which feature in other galleries or have been exhibited
before plus a good many others that I have unearthed for a long overdue airing. Portraiture has a timeless
appeal that isn't shared by a lot of topographical etching which unfortunately can become very dated
unless it includes something odd and original. Most of the good etchers from the 'golden' period of
1910-1935 were accomplished portraitists in other media, and their etched efforts are often of fellow
artists and print 'celebrities' in contrast to their commissioned works in paint which usually depict
the great, wealthy and good.
