The Impressed Image

The Gallery

Current and Previous Exhibitions.........

What a terrific wheeze! My own Art Gallery!

Sick of all those pompous and worthy exhibitions of cobweb encrusted second rate stuff from the bowels of your local municipal gallery or museum? Fed up with rooms full of bizarre installations, elephant turds, and impenetrable gaudy daubs by the barely sane at your local 'Modern Art' gallery? Disappointed when you trek for hours to that 'unmissable' exhibition, only to find that almost everything is the size of a postage stamp or it's too crowded to see anything, or it's just 101 different variations of the same aquatic plant?

Well, you're welcome to look at my paltry accumulation for free and in the comfort of your own home, with some useful info and comment thrown in for good measure.

You can exclaim 'God, what crap' or sundry other comments, aloud, without fear of others glaring at you as if you are some hideous, uncultured, form of pond-life. You can even ask questions and get civil and useful answers.

Gallery 1 - 'Big Ones' - some larger prints worth airing(Hanging - nearly done)

Gallery 2 - 'Archived Prints' - a rag bag of stuff shown ages ago (Needs Rearranging)

Gallery 3 - 'Recent Bargains' - any recent good buys or oddities (Needs Rearranging)

Gallery 4 - 'Robin Tanner' - almost everything he produced (In Preparation)

Gallery 5 - 'More Cheap and Cheerful Prints' - but often rather fine (Needs Rearranging)

Gallery 6 - 'Something Colourful' - a selection of coloured offerings (Hanging - nearly done)

Gallery 7 - 'Ernest Lumsden' - everything I possess of this fine etcher (In Preparation)

Gallery 8 - 'Portraits' - some fine and unusual figure studies (Hanging - nearly done)

Gallery 9 - 'Russian Things' - mostly contemporary and highly original(Hanging - nearly done)

Gallery 10 - 'Miniature Marvels' - mostly contemporary miniature prints (OPEN !)

To make browsing less painful each gallery has 20-40 prints with smallish thumbnails showing the title and artist. They should load fairly quickly (all are 5-15k each). There's a bit of category overlap and some things feature more than once, so no... you aren't imagining you've seen things before...

Clicking on the thumbnail will show the relevant image(s) with more detailed information. Sometimes I have grouped several images together, particularly if they are the same artist. All are usually 100k or less. I've arranged things so that by the time you have read my words of wisdom the picture(s) should have loaded.

I've manipulated and enhanced most images to give the best balance between size, download time and clarity. Some closely etched work cannot be shrunk below a certain size without rendering them unviewable. If you are viewing at 640x480 on a 15" monitor with a 28k (or less) modem you are clearly bonkers and I suggest to stick to image-free websites before frustration and an enormous telephone bill further damages your sanity.

Drop me a line if there is anything that you have problems with or think can be improved. I can't claim anything here is perfect and it's the best I can do by trial and error!
