Frederic Whiting (British 1874-1962)
Printmaker and painter, born in London, (where he lived for most of his life) trained at the Royal Academy
and Academie Julian, Paris. Drew for the Graphic in the early years of the century and covered civil wars
in China (1900-01) and the Russo-Japanese war (1904-5). He won many awards at exhibitions in Europe, being
highly regarded for his portraiture and equestrian subjects. This print clearly is based on his Chinese
experiences.
