Details
Past and Present's first volume on The Welsh Highland Railway, Published in
1999, described the revival of the
route from Caernarfon to Dinas, a mere 4
miles. In the intervening years, with the help of Heritage Lottery
funding, the
Ffestiniog Railway, and the hard work of contractors, supporters and volunteers
, the line now enters
the Snowdonia National Park as far as Rhydd Ddu, at the
very foot of Snowdon, a 13-mile trip from Caernarfon
through magnificent
scenery that is surely unsurpassed on any narrow-gauge railway in the UK.
As always, the
book features evocative and fascinating comparative views,
chronicling what has been achieved in recent years,
and what can now be seen
and enjoyed along the route. Meanwhile, the Welsh Highland is now looking
towards
Phase 3 - the return to Porthmadog - when once again the 'past' of this
fascinating railway will become a new
'present'!
